This is an annual bursary award that aims to support the creative development of practicing artists living and working in County Cork. It is open to artists working in any artform. Project proposals may include proposals for funding of a period of research for a specific project; the creation of a specific work or a combination of both. Applications for collaborative projects involving two or more artists are welcome. This scheme is open only to practicing artists currently resident in Cork County. Proposed projects must be capable of being completed within 12 months of the grant date.

This bursary is designed to assist individual artists develop international performing or exhibition opportunities for their work.  It aims to provide financial assistance towards the costs of bringing new creative output by artists living and working in Cork County to an international audience. Only practicing artists based in Cork County are eligible to apply.
Grant assistance will be awarded only where applications meet the artistic and financial requirements set down by Cork County Council. Please note that Cork County Council reserves its right to add to or reduce the number and value of awards it may make. 

Award Objectives

  • To assist county based artists bring their work to an international audience.
  • To support the career development and professional profile of county based artists.
  • To enable artists develop connections with promoters and arts venues outside the island of Ireland.

Number and Value of grants
The maximum grant that may be requested is €2,000. The number of awards that may be made will be determined by the available budget, which will be set in advance of the selection process. The decision of Cork County Council in relation to the value and number of grants that may be awarded is final.

Cork County Council provides two bursaries annually to artists of any discipline currently resident in Cork County to support a two week working period working at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Annaghmakerrig, Co. Monaghan.

Please note
• The Tyrone Guthrie Bursary is open to practitioners in all artforms including writers, composers, musicians, visual artists, filmmakers, practitioners in the performing arts, theatre and dance and multi-media.
• Applicants should state clearly and concisely what they wish to accomplish during their stay at Annaghmakerrig.
• Applicants must be currently resident in the Cork County area.
• Applicants should show significant achievement in their chosen field.
• Successful applicants must be in a position to avail of a residency within the year of award.

Cork County Council invites applications for a Bursary Award for a residency at Ballinglen Arts Foundation in 2017 for a two week period.

The Ballinglen Arts Foundation is an Irish non-profit organisation located in the village of Ballycastle on the coast of North County Mayo. Its programmes are designed to support serious artists making important work in ideal, inspiring conditions. This Bursary Award offers visual artists living in County Cork an opportunity to work side by side with other Irish and International artists in this unique setting.

The award will include a fully equipped studio in the purpose built Ballinglen Centre, the support of the Ballinglen staff and the use of a two/three bedroom cottage. It is envisaged that this opportunity will encourage and benefit established and emerging artists in developing their practice.

• This bursary is open to practitioners in all visual artforms, currently resident in county Cork.
• Applicants must be 18yrs+
• Applicants should show significant achievement in their chosen field. This would normally mean artists should have had one-person shows in reputable galleries. Otherwise the applicant must demonstrate a high degree of promise attested by references or other forms of support from established figures in the arts.
• Artists who have previously stayed at the Ballinglen Arts foundation may not apply.

Cork County Council invites proposal from Artists, and Arts Organisations for Irish Language based arts events, projects or activities. The aim of this funding strand is to support individual artists or arts groups to create a new work or promote an arts event or activity that is Irish Language based.

• to help promote new Irish language based events or activities in Festivals or in  the annual programmes of local arts groups
• to encourage higher levels of creative participation in the arts through the medium of Irish,
• to develop new audience  for the arts through the Irish Language
• to help create new opportunities for the public and communities  to enjoy cultural experiences through the medium of Irish
• to assist the Council in delivering its cultural services more equitably
• to enable artists and arts organisers to work together to develop new productions, activities and events using the Irish Language
