Additional Resources to Update Cork County Electoral Register

Cork County Council has allocated additional resources to improve and update the electoral register to ensure its integrity going forward. The Council maintains the register for all voters in Cork County.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne. T.D, and Minister of State with responsibility for Local Government and Planning John Cummins TD, have announced additional funding for local authorities to intensify work on their electoral register data. The funding will enable local authorities to continue to build on progress.
Cork County Council’s Franchise Team is working on 22,981 potential duplicate records identified on the register. They are contacting electors and removing duplicates once confirmed by the elector. More than 11,000 records have already been updated.
The work is in advance of the move to a new national electoral registration system www.voter.ie in 2026. Townlands, polling stations, postal towns, electoral division, electoral areas, and polling districts are also being translated to Irish so voters can in future have the option of receiving their polling cards in Irish to comply with the Irish Language Acts.
In 2024, Cork County Council’s Franchise Team added 40,174 electors, modified 29,889 records, and deleted 13,425 records. Currently there are 295,315 voters on Cork County’s register.
