Cork County Council, in conjunction with the OPW Art Management Group, is inviting proposals for the development of a creative residency under the Per Cent for Art allocation for Bandon Flood Relief Scheme.

This nine-to-twelve-month community-focused residency is open to professional artists, designers and craftspeople in all artforms. The fee for the residency, which includes all production and expenses, is €32,000.

The focus of this residency will be on co-created and socially engaged artistic works, projects, series of events and/or activities that are temporary or permanent. It will involve a professional artist, designer or craft maker co-creating with local communities of place or interest. The artwork(s)/activities/projects must respond to the local context in a meaningful way, support creativity in the Bandon area, and take place within one year of the artist commencing the residency. A public artistic output at the end of the residency is desirable.

The geographical scope of this commission is the general Bandon town area. Applicants are asked to consider the social, political, environmental, historical and cultural contexts of the area. Applicants are also asked to be mindful of the environmental impact of their proposal in this area.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Frank O’Flynn welcomed the opportunity saying,

Bandon is a culturally vibrant town, with artists, designers and craftspeople engaging directly with communities, the environment and the towns rich heritage. Cork County Council looks forward to seeing the outcomes of this exciting community focused residency.

An online information session for potential applicants will take place on Thursday the 7th of March from 11:00am to 12:00pm. Email arts@corkcoco.ie for the link to this online session.
