Public Encouraged to Attend Information Event for Kanturk Town Centre First Regeneration Plan

Kanturk Castle.

Marking the commencement of the public engagement phase of the Town Centre First Regeneration Plan for Kanturk, Cork County Council is inviting members of the public to attend an information evening on Thursday the 30th of May at Temperance Hall, Strand Street, Kanturk.

In March of this year, an allocation of €30,000 was approved by the Department of Rural and Community Development to develop a Town Centre First Regeneration Plan for the North Cork town. The funding will be used to develop a community-led vision for Kanturk culminating in a Town Centre First Plan that can then support competitive bids for national and local funding to progress the projects identified.

The national Town Centre First Policy aims to create town centres that function as vibrant, viable and attractive locations for people to live, work and visit while also serving as the service, social, cultural and recreational hub for the local community.

Welcoming the commencement of the public engagement phase, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Frank O’ Flynn said,

The Town Centre First plan for Kanturk will be informed by insights gathered from public consultation and surveys. This information event is the first of many and I would encourage anyone interested to go along and find out how they can get involved.

Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Valerie O’ Sullivan noted,

While Kanturk is the second town in County Cork to receive funding under the national Town Centre First initiative, the Council is actively progressing a range of regeneration measures across towns in the county, covering areas such as sustainable travel, property activation and public realm enhancements. The development of a Town Centre First plan for Kanturk will inform the future direction of the town and the priority investment interventions that will require funding in the future.

The initial information and community drop-in event will be held in Temperance Hall, Strand Street, Kanturk from 3:00pm – 7:00pm on Thursday the 30th of May.  Staff from Cork County Council’s Town Regeneration Office will meet residents, businesses and community stakeholders to inform them about how they can get involved in the plan development process.
