Temporary Closing of Public Roads

TEMPORARY CLOSING OF PUBLIC ROADS

Pursuant to Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, notice is hereby given that Cork County Council proposes to temporarily close the following road for the period and reason specified below:

Road Subject of Proposed Closure

The N73 National Secondary Road from the junction of the N72 and N73 at Oliver’s Cross to the east of Mallow Town to the junction of the N73 and L1332 to the North of Skenakilla Cross.

Period of Proposed Closure 

From Monday, 4th March 2024 at 19.30hrs to Wednesday, 4th December 2024 at 07.00hrs.

Reason for Proposed Closure

To facilitate the road widening works on the N73 National Secondary Route.

Alternative Routes

Mitchelstown traffic to Mallow, via Fermoy

Traffic travelling from Mitchelstown to Mallow shall turn onto the R639 at Stag’s Cross and continue on the R639 Mitchelstown Relief Road to the roundabout with the R513. Traffic shall take the second exit on to the R639 and continue towards Fermoy.  Traffic will continue on the R639 to the M8 Junction 13 and travel over the bridge on the R639 and continue to the junction of the R639 and the M8 Junction 14 to the east of Fermoy.  Traffic shall continue on the R639 to the junction of the N72 at Christ Church Junction. Traffic shall turn right at this junction and travel west along the N72.  Traffic shall continue along the N72 to the village of Ballyhooly.  Traffic shall continue along the N72 west along to the village of Castletownroche.  Traffic shall continue through the village of Castletownroche along the N72 and shall continue on to the junction of the N72 and the N73 at Oliver’s Cross.

Mallow traffic to Mitchelstown, via Fermoy

Traffic travelling from Mallow to Mitchelstown and Fermoy shall keep on the N72 at Oliver’s Cross and travel along the N72 east to the village of Castletownroche.  Traffic shall then continue east along the N72 to the village of Ballyhooly.  Traffic shall continue east along the N72 to the Christ Church Junction in Fermoy, the junction of the N72 and the R639.  Traffic shall turn left and travel along the R639 to the junction of the R639 and the M8 at Junction 14 to the east of Fermoy.  Traffic shall cross over the bridge of M8 and continue along the R639 to Junction 13 of the M8.  Traffic shall travel over the bridge of the M8 and continue northwards. Traffic shall continue to the roundabout on the junction of the R639 and the R513. Traffic shall take the second exit off the roundabout on the R639 west from the roundabout and travel west along R639 Mitchelstown Relief Road.  Traffic shall join the N73 at the roundabout at the N73 and the R639.

Mallow traffic to Kildorrery 

Traffic travelling from Mallow to Kildorrery shall keep on the N72 at Oliver’s Cross and travel along the N72 east to the village of Castletownroche.  In Castletownroche, the traffic shall turn left on to the L1229, the Doneraile Road.  Traffic shall stay on this road until the Skenakilla Cross.  At the T-junction, the traffic shall turn left on to the L1233 to the junction of the N73 at Skenakilla Cross and then when it meets the junction with the N73, traffic shall turn right on to the N73.  When on the N73, traffic shall continue on the N73 to the village of Kildorrery.

Kildorrery traffic to Mallow

Traffic travelling from Kildorrery to Mallow shall keep on the N73 from Kildorrery headed south to Mallow.  When traffic reaches Skenakilla Cross, traffic shall turn left on to the L1233 and immediately turn right on to the L1229, the Doneraile Road.  Traffic shall continue along that road in the direction of Castletownroche to the junction of the N72 and the L1229.  At this junction in the village of Castletownroche, the traffic will turn right on the N72 heading in the direction of Mallow.  From here, traffic shall continue along to join the road as normal at Oliver’s Cross.

The diversion routes will be fully signposted. Local access will be maintained. 

Objections

Objections to this proposed temporary road closure should be made in writing, to the undersigned, not later than 10 am on Wednesday 14th February, 2024.
