Cois Móire

A new documentary series by Cormorant Films on TG4

4 x 1 hour Series

Starts 9.30 pm, Wednesday 9th November 2022 on TG4 and TG4 Player

Diarmuid Ó Drisceoil brings you the story of the River Blackwater, An Abhainn Mhór na Mumhan. Following in the footsteps of Annroai O’ Liathain and using his book Cois Móire as a travel guide, Diarmuid will travel this spine of river, from its source near the breast of the Goddess Danú in Kerry, into Mallow, Fermoy, onto Lismore, Cappoquin and finally its mouth at the sea in Youghal.

Diarmuid will bask in the natural environment of the of river while telling its story, bringing its vast history and personality to life through ruins of historic buildings, and energetic modern communities, capturing and reflecting the wealth of the river's natural ecology.

Largely inaccessible by land due to forestry and private ownership, it has preserved its natural beauty and remains a witness & a timeless haven from a world beyond its banks, that is ever changing.

Mayor of the County of Cork Councillor Danny Collins said:

Cork County Council is delighted to be a key funding partner of the Cois Móire documentary series. The Blackwater is of great significance to Cork County, flowing in an Easterly direction through Millstreet, Mallow, Fermoy and Youghal, where it joins the Celtic Sea. I am sure viewers will be captivated by the distinctive character of the region, with everything from the military history of Fermoy to the enchanting music of the Sliabh Luachra music trail, the majestic Drishane Castle in Millstreet and the famed Raleigh Quarter in Youghal. I would like to congratulate Cormorant Films for producing this excellent series highlighting Cork’s past and present along the river Blackwater and look forward to seeing many more visitors to Cork County to discover the vast history, rich culture, unique landscape and incredible stories spanning centuries that the Blackwater holds, from Celtic times to present day.

The series is produced and directed by Darina Clancy

Cois Móire

Sraith faisnéise nua le Cormorant Films ar TG4 Sraith 4 x 1 uair an chloig

Ag tosú 9.30 pm, Dé Céadaoin 9 Samhain 2022 ar TG4

Cuireann Diarmuid Ó Drisceoil scéal Abhainn Mhór na Mumhan os ár gcomhair. Ag leanacht lorg Annraoi Uí Liatháin, agus a leabhar Cois Móire mar threoir aige, taistealaíonn Diarmuid cúrsa na habhann óna foinse in oir- thuaisceart Chiarraí, trí Mhala agus Mainistir Fhear Maí, ar aghaidh go Lios Mór agus Ceapach Choinn go dtí go sroicheann sí an fharraige faoi dheireadh in Eochaill.

Baineann Diarmuid lán-taitneamh as timpeallacht nádúrtha na habhann agus é ag insint a scéil. Léiríonn sé stair dhomhain na hAbhann Móire tríd na sean-fhoirgnimh stairiúla agus tugann pobail bhríomhara an lae inniu tuiscint do ar charachtar agus ar phearsantacht na habhann. Taispeáineann sé saibhreas éiceolaíochta na habhann chomh maith agus é ar a aistear.

De bharr go bhfuil bruacha na habhann i seilbh phríobháideach don chuid is mó agus doshroichte dá bharr sin, tá a háilleacht nádúrtha slán agus tá an abhainn féin mar a bheadh tearmann buan ón domhan mór thar a bruacha, domhan a bhíonn ag athrú de shíor.

A dúirt Méara Chontae Chorcaí, an Comhairleoir Danny Collins:

Tá ríméad ar Chomhairle Contae Chorcaí a bheith ag tacú go mór ó thaobh an airgeadais de le sraith faisnéise Chois Móire. Tá An Dubhabhainn an-suntasach do Chontae Chorcaí, ag rith soir trí Shráid an Mhuilinn, Mala, Mainistir Fhear Maí agus Eochaill, áit a dtagann sé isteach sa Mhuir Cheilteach. Tá mé cinnte go mbeidh an-spéis ag an lucht féachana i saincharachtar an réigiúin, le gach rud ó stair mhíleata Mhainistir Fhear Maí go ceol díograiseach Shliabh Luachra, Caisleán maorga an Driseáin i Sráid an Mhuilinn agus Ceathrú Ráth Luíoch mór le rá in Eochaill. Ba mhaith liom comhghairdeas a dhéanamh le Cormorant Films as an tsraith iontach seo a léiriú, sraith a tharraingíonn aird ar stair Chorcaí feadh na Dubhabhann agus tá mé ag súil le go leor cuairteoirí eile a fheiceáil go Contae Chorcaí chun eolas a fháil ar an stair ilchineálach, ar an gcultúr saibhir, ar an tírdhreach uathúil agus ar na scéalta dochreidte a mhaireann mórthimpeall na Dubhabhann ó aimsir na gCeilteach go dtí an lá atá inniu ann.

Cois Móire – craolfar an chéad chlár de cheithre cinn ar an gCéadaoin, 9 Samhain at 9.30pm agus ar Sheinnteoir TG4.
