Status of bathing water: Green Coast

Garnish Strand is located 10.5km west of Allihies Village and 3km east of Dursey Cable Car. The beach forms an inlet within the larger Garnish Bay/Kenmare River. It consists of a stone and pebble strand with sand at water level, approximately 90m in length, see Figure 1 below. This strand forms part of a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), Kenmare River SAC 002158 and is immediately adjacent to Beara Peninsula Special Protected Area 004155.

Garnish Strand is an extremely valuable resource to both residents and visitors for a number of reasons, including the lack of other beaches in the area, its scenery and landscape and for its safe and sheltered location for swimming and other recreational activities.
