Following the success of recent information sessions held by Cork County Council about the supports available to owners of vacant, under-utilised and derelict properties, the Council is inviting property owners to a further series of events this month.

A series of Vacancy and Dereliction Drop-in Days will be held at libraries in Newmarket, Ballyvourney, Dunmanway, Mitchelstown, Cobh, Carrigaline, Kinsale, Millstreet and Castletownbere during the month of May. This follows recent well-attended sessions in twelve other libraries around Cork County in April, where queries relating to 145 individual properties were addressed.

Staff from Cork County Council’s Town Regeneration Office (TRO) will be on hand to provide property owners with information about how to avail of grants and other supports to assist in bringing their properties back into use, and to answer queries property owners may have.

The Town Regeneration Office and Vacant Homes Office of Cork County Council, work collaboratively across County Cork to identify vacant properties, engage with owners and implement the Derelict Sites Act where necessary.

Cork County Council has surveyed 2,824 properties to confirm if they are vacant through its Residential Vacancy Survey.  Currently, 125 properties are listed on the Cork County Derelict Sites Register. In addition, over 1,100 Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant applications have been approved by the Council across County Cork since the scheme launch in 2022.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Joe Carroll commented,

There has been very positive feedback about the drop-in days held in April. It’s great to see that these very practical events are now being brought to further Cork towns, as many more property owners will have the opportunity to become aware of supports available to them to improve their vacant and derelict properties.
